Interested in climbing for our Junior Climbing Team? Great! It's a lot of fun, but like any team, it also has responsibilities. Read below to find out more and contact the gym if you have more questions.
Mission of the Triangle Rock Club Climbing Team
The team's mission is to create a well-rounded climbing experience that encourages safe climbing, friendship, and a healthy lifestyle for the young climbers while promoting the individual climber to seek growth through competition.
Goals
Our main goal is to teach all around climbing skills to young climbers, and to cultivate new climbers. We will provide an environment for learning with our knowledgeable staff and superior facility; we will also adhere to the Triangle Rock Clubs safety standards.
More specific goals:
Meet new friends
Encourage climbers to be self-sufficient
Promote climbing as a fun lifestyle choice
Work towards individual climbers' goals
Improve on technical, physical, and mental climbing skills
Participate in USA Climbing's ABS and SCS series
Expectations
The coaching staff has certain expectations in regards to the team as a whole and also to each individual climber. We expect each climber to show up to practice and be ready for practice on time. We also expect that each climber is willing to work hard during practice, giving 100%. We expect them to be self motivated and show a willingness to work together with other climbing team members. In addition to this we fully expect the climbers to come in and climb on their own time; after all, climbing is fun. Personal climbing is a great way to see improvement on your own.
The Coaches are expecting team members to be supportive of each other, both verbally and physically, through spotting, belaying and pats on the back. We also expect the climbers to be forming a community within themselves, as well as with other climbers in the gym.

Dissemination of Information
The Coaching staff will use the Triangle Rock Clubs Official Team webpage (to be established) as a way of posting and passing information about different events and competitions to the parents and the climbers. A team email group will also be established to quickly pass information.
Practice Dates and times
Official Team TRC practices will be held every Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., beginning the first week of August 2008. In addition to the Monday Team practice, an Individual practice will be held every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A coach will be on site during this time to instruct and guide members through their assigned workouts.
Additional special practices or outings to local crags or other climbing gyms will occasionally be scheduled throughout the season. These sessions will be determined by the head coach; Parents will be given as much notice as possible on time, location, requirements and any other associated costs.
Team Membership requirements and cost
The Team TRC junior climbing team is open to young climbers from the ages of 10-17 years old. Team members are required to have their own gear and become belay certified. TRC will waive minimum age requirement to belay assuming the individual climber possess the belaying skill and maturity to safely belay other climbers. Lead climbing certification is not required but is highly encouraged as the climber progresses.
We require all climbing team participants to be members of TRC. This can be satisfied though any of the membership packages we offer. All normal TRC membership privileges, rules and restrictions apply. In addition to their TRC membership a monthly climbing team fee of $100 will be due on the first practice of each month. This fee is required each month to keep the member current and eligible to take part in practices. Involvement with Team TRC is a month to month commitment we do not require Parents to pay for the whole season up front. All new joins to the team roster will occur on the first practice of the month and all drops will be official on the last practice of the month. If a climber wishes to practice and compete with the team that month they must be current in both their TRC membership and their climbing team membership on the first practice of the month.
TRC's Responsibilities
Our responsibility to the team will be to provide the most professional and safe training atmosphere possible. Our coaching staff will follow the USAC's Coaching Code of Conduct as well as TRC's staff rules.
Throughout both the ABS and SCS seasons our coaches will travel to a number of local comps to coach and assist team members as they compete. A minimum of 3 local comps will be staffed by TRC coaches during both USAC seasons. In addition to local comps TRC will also provide a coach at one regional comp for both seasons. An exact schedule of comps to be attended by TRC coaches will be posted when USAC releases next season's ABS 10 and SCS schedule. If any Team TRC members go to Nationals TRC will make a coach available to attend but the coaches travel expenses would have to be paid through fundraising.
Team members will be required to purchase an official Team TRC climbing shirt at cost. Active Team TRC members will receive a 15% discount on basic climbing equipment (shoes, harness, belaying hardware and ropes) carried in our retail area.
